Celery soup a la Martha Stewart

I had a celery stalk sitting in my refrigerator since last week's farmer's market haul, so I decided to get on it and use it! I looked up celery soup on google, and Martha's recipe was the first one that came up: Martha's Creamy Celery Soup

There were some comments on her site saying people added vegetable stock instead of water and the addition of bacon to add flavor. Unfortunately, I forgot to pick up some vegetable stock while at Sprouts. I think if you just use less water, it would have been less bland as well. I also happened to use sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes since they're healthy for you.

So, overall, the soup came out as 'good,' but could be better. I would use less water next time, but it was tasty!

2nd + 3rd weekend of August

Thank you for the lovely notes and cards of comfort and warmth yesterday.  To be honest, I was a bit surprised to hear from some of you, but it's nice to know there are a few people actually reading this blog.  I feel a lot better today because of you guys.  *virtual hugs*  Time also has a way of lessening the deepness of the sadness.  I'm sure there will be days ahead that will be difficult again, like when I actually see my mom in person for the first time, but I'll cross that bridge then. In the meantime, I'd like to continue doing regular things to further distance the sad feelings and memories.  I wish I blogged more regularly so that I wouldn't start forgetting things, but c'est la vie.  Ethan has gotten used to his new shoes now, and doesn't protest putting them on as much anymore.  We did go to Little Gym in our area, and Ethan was curiously terrified.  He wouldn't let go of Lucas, and refused to be put down.  Even his legs and...

Fixin 'er up!

My blu-ray player stopped working all of a sudden on Friday. I was thinking oh well, I've been wanting to upgrade it anyway for a while. Then another thought came into mind, hey, I should try upgrading the firmware before trashing it. Just upgraded, and I get to see this now:

All-time favorite mixtape

I wrote this post back in August of last year, but never posted it for some reason or other.  I've added a few to the list now, but here we go... Do you remember the days when you would make a mixtape?  I don't remember making that many for other people, but I remember making them for listening to in the car.  Honestly, most of them weren't really 'tapes,' but were CDs.  I've come to realize that there is a type of song that no matter how old or new it is, I'm instantly attracted to it.  When listening to a recent Ted radio hour podcast, I realized I wanted to make a post about my all-time favorite songs.  The podcast talked about how people tend to favor songs that sound similar to ones they already know as opposed to songs that sound completely different.  So, you're more likely to not change the radio station if a song comes on that you don't like, but you've heard a billion times, just because of its familiarity.  So, I thought about my a...
