Baby Books

I'm always on the lookout for new books to read to Ethan.  While he may not actually understand what I'm saying or always look at the pages for very long, he does seem to enjoy the activity.  He loves turning the pages all by himself, looking back and forth from mommy and the book while reading, swiping the books onto the floor (and look for them after they've fallen), and occasionally chew on a corner or two.  As he's gotten older, he's definitely gotten more involved in baby-handling the books himself, and finds himself absolutely tickled with enjoyment when I've said a very funny-sounding word.  His current 9-month favorite sounds are, "Boo!" "Yo!" "Zoo."  When he was around 4-5-months he thought "Zzzzot!" "Buzzz" and "Skunk!" were simply hilarious.

Here's a few of the books that are part of his reading adventure thus far...

A cloth book for super infant days, but one that he still loves to this day as he's taken an interest in all things that make a crinkly sound

Around 4 months, I purchased these cards for him that he would stare at for quite a few minutes.  This is also where some of the sounds he loves came from (e.g. "What sound does an anteater make?? - I totally improvised here and couldn't disassociate UCI with anteaters)http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VT8DB6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

At Ethan's 6 month checkup, the doctor gave him this book:

It looks like it was made in the '80s but for some reason, he's really enamored with it.  Perhaps it's all the baby faces in the book, or the pleasant rhymes, or he loves hugging and kissing?

His current favorite book as a 9-month old:

This Peek a Who book is so much fun to read to him because you get to make funny sounds, the cutout pages are super easy for him to grab, and there's a nice surprise at the end!

And finally, some books that I really enjoy reading to him:

This last book is probably more suitable for a toddler than a baby, but it's so amusing that I had to get it.  You can already tell it's a good one from the title ;o)

It's Okay to Not Be Okay in 2020

This year has been, what can we say; Disruptive, strange, and hard.  We were supposed to go on an epic Japan adventure sans kids for the first time, party at the BTS concert together, and explore more of LA as a family to name a few of our plans.  Instead, we tried to make the most of remote learning, rearranged our home to accommodate two work from home parents, worked our butts off to retain both of our jobs, and found small ways to keep the sanity. To focus on the bright spots though: 1. We are now raising some cute fish in a 10 gallon tank 2. Tie dying has become a family hobby 3. We enjoy quality family time every weekend with a lunch {& boba drinks} & movie date (Disney's Onward and Netflix's Over the Moon are standout favs)  4. Netflix & Kdrama has become a fond pastime for Eleen & Lucas (Netflix's Signal and It's Okay to Not Be Okay are excellent) 5. No one has been sick for a whole year (with kids in preschool & elementary school normall...

oh yea, there's that

I knew I would be learning a whole lot when we decided to have a baby, but there are a few things I never expected to pick up along the way.  1. I know how to properly fold a fitted sheet      I also know how to neatly put away all the bed sheets into a nice little pouch thanks to pinterest, but that's besides the point.  One of the not so fun things of getting a whole lot of baby stuff is unpackaging everything.  Especially the toys, oh my word.  There is a twist tie, or more commonly, those plastic circle jail thingies in every nook and cranny.  Twist ties are also not sufficient sometimes as they usually have to have tape over themselves too.  But, back to the fitted sheet: not that I bought a huge amount of crib sheets, but I'm a fan of sheets in general.  So, after opening a few of them, I started noticing a trend of how they were folded.  I think I took notice of how they are folded because crib sheets are so sm...

A New Outlook on Motherhood & Life

Before having children, I hated children.  I couldn’t understand them, and found them incredibly annoying.  I never gave a second thought to being a mom unlike some who aspire to be one their whole lives.  One day, I would become a mom after marriage and that would be that.  The only fact I knew for sure was that I definitely wanted to have more than one   child.  Being an only child, I recognized the importance of giving the gift of a sibling to my first. Approaching motherhood going on four years now with two babes has given me new perspective on what it’s all about. I’ve been asked before on the merits of becoming a mom or having children, and while it’s easy to complain about all the difficult parts, it has always been insurmountable to fully put into words the gravity or the magnitude of such a decision on my life.  Obviously, people say, children bring such joy and a newness to life that you have left behind in your childhood or forgott...
